Outstanding charter schools
Marana also has a La Paloma Academy campus, an excellent not-for-profit K-8 college-prep charter school featuring an Arizona College and Career Ready Standards curriculum. Like MUSD, La Paloma Academy offers a variety of extracurricular activities, sports, before-and-after school programs and full-day kindergarten. In 2005, La Paloma Academy received a State of Arizona Excellence in Education Award.
The Leman Academy of Excellence in Marana is another outstanding independently operated, tuition-free public charter school, featuring a classical liberal educational curriculum emphasizing grammar (reading, writing and mathematics), logic (analytical thinking) and rhetoric (effective writing and speaking). In 2022, the Leman Academy of Excellence in Marana was voted “Best Charter School” by the readers of Marana News, Explorer and Foothill News.

Marana is also home to the Global Youth Leadership Academy (GYL), an impressive program for high school students. GYL offers seven-day leadership programs abroad and its intensive U.S. four-day academy. All programs are globally focused and feature experiential learning experiences designed to help student gain leadership skills, cultural awareness and a commitment to affect change locally and across the globe.
